IMPORTANT --- UNATTENDED CHILDREN POLICY

It is library policy that:

Parents OR adult caregivers MUST remain in the library with any child under the age of 10 years while attending library programs.

ANY child under the age of 10 years old MUST be in the care of an adult OR a sibling 14 years of age OR older.

If ANY child under the age of 10 years is found to be unattended it may become necessary that the child will not be able to attend the library's programs.

NO library staff member may be responsible for ANY children who are present in the library.

Kidz Read! Book Club! --- Friday, September 3, 10, 17, 24th at 4:00 PM Gr. 3-5: Led by Library Assistant Faten Masri, this book discussion group is intended to be fun as opposed to "work." Ideal for even the most reluctant reader, participants will read and discuss a fun and thought-provoking novel each week. Please note: all books will be provided by the library and enrollees can read as much or as little as they wish, all that is expected is participation! Pizza and refreshments will be provided. Registration Required

11:00 AM:" Ages 1-3 Years:  Weaving stories and songs with beginning Yoga poses, Adra crafts a class that is as fun as it is unique. A wonderful opportunity to get some exercise and network! Due to the nature of the program, space is limited to just 15 enrollees. Caregivers, please call the library at 201-224-6144 and register for this unique initiative. LIVE PERFORMANCE: "Flute, Sweet, and Tickletoon -- Green Golly and Her Golden Flute": A FAMILY-EVENT: Ms. Barbara Siesel and Mr. Keith Torgan comprise the musically gifted tandem better known as "Flute, Sweet and Tickletoon." Barbara and Keith have been seen on Nickleodeon, Nick Jr., countless Podcasts, and their music can be found on AOL Music, Amazon Music and other such sites. Last year, the duo performed "Little Kids, Little Songs" for our juvenile audience and the program was wonderfully received. Registration Required

Starter Chess Club--- Thursday, September 16, 23, 30th at 4:00 PM Ages 5 and 6: The overwhelming success of Wednesday's Chess Club prompted the creation of the "Starter Chess" class. Introducing youngsters to the game's basics helps ensure an interest, and skill, in Chess as children mature. This initiative will introduce enrollees to the various pieces and their capabilities, rudimentary "openings" and strategies, and the most crucial component...open play. Registration Required

Chess Club--- Wednesday, September 15, 22, 29 at 4:00 PM Ages 7+: The response to the Edgewater Free Public Library's Chess program has been absolutely phenomenal. Chess teaches lessons that resonate far beyond the playing board; consequences, strategy and mathematics are integral components to the game. Basic and intermediate instruction is followed by "open-play." Enrollment for the fall session of Chess club will start on September 1st. Registration Required

Learn to Speak Japanese For Kids ---Saturday, September 18th at 11:00 AM: "Learn to Speak Japanese For Kids!": Gr. 3+: Here's something different! Rutgers University Linguistics student Joan Nolasco will be running a "Learn to speak Japanese" class for students in grades 3 and up. Every child who has an interest in learning the language is encouraged to attend. Younger children who already speak a little Japanese MAY be accepted into this very special program. Future class times will be contingent upon the number of enrollees. Registration Required

Tiny Hands--- Friday, September 3, 17th at 3:00 PM 12 Months +: Few activities stimulate young minds like "free art" does. The Tiny Hands art program will provide toddlers with the opportunity to sharpen their motor skills and express developing creativity while affording caregivers time to engage with their children and expand upon their own social networks.
